As I reflect over the year many things come into mind such as: how I managed my ethos, logos, pathos and kairos in the classroom. I have gained plenty amounts of knowledge over a generally wide area throughout the year and I will be explaining these to you. Initially off with technological advancements and how they hinder our lives all the way to determining if it is a good or bad source of political propaganda.
Opening with ethos, at the beginning of the year I was confused on what it was. As I progressed through the year my knowledge of ethos gained tremendously. My definition is how you manage your credibility in your work and how you interact and create meaning ethically and emotionally. Ethos is very important and is looked at in every paper, blog, or status whether you know or not so it’s important to retain a good ethos. For it to show through you and your papers is important and I will explain how I did. Starting with the first blog assignment I wrote over how technology has increased but also the distractions that are brought with it. I was very careful and uneasy about it because I had never created one. I looked up many examples and searched countless times on Google, how to create a blog. I then started writing and carefully citing any sources that I used and making links with them. It’s not about the quantity of pages written but how credible and reliable it is to readers and viewers.
Creating a good ethos is hard but once it has been established keeping it is just as difficult. My next paper covered how an ICT, information communication device, positively or negatively corresponded with my life. This assignment took time and thinking on how I use the device myself. We watched videos in class, read paragraphs and listened to the teacher speak about this issue. As writing time started to approach I determined my standpoint, that ICT’s positively hinder my life. With the citing of all my sources, my ethos just fell short. Slipping up on a few grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors it only motivated me to work harder and regain what I lost. With the kairos of technological advancement at its prime I think it was very profound that we wrote about the issue. Only benefitting the way we live, it is impressive what technology does for us and is only going to keep increasing.
At the end of it all, I believe my ethos has gained from the beginning and a definite improvement on my writing. Not being a very well writer coming into the class, I was nervous about taking it at OU. As the year sped through I realized I shouldn’t doubt myself, but positively approach situations I have trouble with and handle them ethically. I have seen my ethos grow as the year progressed and it has molded me into a better person. Saying that I hope to keep improving as a writer and to gain positive ethos as I move forward in my college years!
